IT Area Manager

For the Selectives Platform within DPG Media, we’re looking for a talented IT Area Manager.

On a daily basis, our content impacts millions of readers, making DPG Media the biggest media house of The Netherlands and Belgium. Without our passionate community, journalists and over 400 IT colleagues, this wouldn’t be possible. The Selectives Area, consisting of two feature teams, creates the best experiences for the sites and apps of our premium news brands; such as Volkskrant, Trouw, Het Parool, De Morgen and HUMO.

The area is currently building a white-label platform for web, mobile and tablets. They also build and maintain the corresponding teaser CMS, in close cooperation with our journalists. At the same time, they are close to rolling out the platform to the last brand. We’re currently looking for an Area Manager to guide the Selectives area into continuous product improvement, the area as a whole and someone to drive alignment within the organisation, by joining forces with the business side and the multiple IT-teams combined.

What you’ll be doing

 As Area Manager you’ll have final responsibility for the Selectives area. As the people manager of the team, you’ll be directing the delivery of product value within the available budget, against required quality, in the shortest possible time. You’ll have budget responsibility for the area and build upon the Agile structure already in place. 

  • The people manager role is becoming increasingly important, as more internal employees join our teams. This also means you’ll have the responsibility of creating the best performing teams by finding and developing people within the area
  • The area will need to be aligned with other areas and the Area Manager will need to focus on monitoring the IT strategy to guarantee quality.
  • You will help our Product Manager create a high-level roadmap and business objectives that the teams will work on
  • You understand the business challenges and daily drives the close collaboration, so we as a company can deliver the most value to our users and often bring some fun and celebrate success, but also have a close eye on how we can learn from failures!

Who you are

Your leadership style will be an important aspect to manage internal and external stakeholders. We are looking someone experienced in, and passionate about people, product development and IT. Someone who knows how to combine those. Enthusiastic storytelling and results-orientation are key elements, too. 

  • You are team-oriented, curious, open-minded and eager to learn
  • You have a coaching and servant leadership style
  • You have experience with (scaled) Scrum & Agile practices
  • Practical experience with IT and Product development
  • You value the importance of quality journalism and passionate to be part of the creation of the best product experience
  • You are willing to travel to Antwerp from time to time

Although we usually correspond in English, fluent understanding and speaking of Dutch is required for this position.
